About Me

Hi, and welcome to my website! I hope you’ll find valuable insight and inspiration here. That’s my ultimate goal, and I’ll work hard to bring you that, and much more.

How I Got Here

It has been a long, interesting road. By ‘interesting’, I mean like a roller coaster. I have had so many career incarnations since I entered the workforce: some chosen, and some stumbled upon. Why all the changes? Well, for several years during a certain decade (or two, over time) the economy was suffering and layoffs and cutbacks were pervasive. I took several ‘hits’, and each time came back and reinvented myself. ‘Temped’. Retrained. Returned to college to gain a new diploma, to supplement my University degree. Was it easy? Definitely not. Self-doubt and fear were almost always on the periphery, and I had to work daily on maintaining a hopeful view of the future. I’ve always been more of an optimist, so that, luckily, was my foundation. My best moment? Achieving my dream of becoming a flight attendant. The worst? Losing that when an economic downturn crushed that airline’s ability to survive after 20 years of operation. Putting my hard-earned wings away in a jewellery box.

My family has often said that I ‘have a book in me’ to detail all the humorous and bittersweet twists and turns that I have taken in my working life — and that it would be a bestseller. I don’t disagree! I already have the book title in my head. But, that’s for another day. Amazon Kindle will have to wait.

There is a Better Way Forward

My latest role is as a civil servant, in a social-services setting. I belong to a union, and not too long ago we took a day off to strike. I remember my team carrying our placards and marching up to a specific site where other members of the same union, but from different organizations all convened for a large rally. Rather than being energized, it created unease in me. Why? Because we were all, by our actions, underscoring this reality: Somebody ELSE was in charge of our livelihoods. Holding the power. Potentially pulling the proverbial carpet out from under us. People at the rally were jovial and loud, with an air of determination. But I thought to myself: I don’t belong here. I want to be in control of my own future, and income. I don’t want to be here, at another rally, in five years’ time when nothing has improved. Demanding change and better income scales from somebody else.

After years of reacting to outside forces surrounding my various employments, this was my undisputed wake-up call.

What I Want For You

If you’ve come to my site, and you’ve read this far — we are probably kindred spirits. You want a better way too, and you’re ready to commit to make it happen. The time is now. The good news about the internet is that it is here to stay, and it is a global market that is ready and waiting to be tapped. This was never more true than at this moment. I hope you’ll tag along with me as I chronicle my development through Wealthy Affiliate. I feel that I have found my entrepreneurial ‘home’ here, and I’d love to share that with you.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Danielle Sherman
